The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) is pleased to announce that its newly created School of Social Work is ready to accept graduate students for Academic Year 2022-2023.

The school is offering a Master of Social Work (MSW) program catering to professionals engaged in social welfare and social development work.

This is in line with PLM’s vision as a premier people’s university in pursuing public interest and national development.

The MSW program is a full three-year course of 30 units and is open to BS Social Work graduates with a general weighted average (GWA) of at least 2.25.

The first year of study will be spent on core courses, followed by a full year of field instruction and classroom courses.

The third year is dedicated to hurdling a comprehensive examination and putting together a capstone project, which should integrate research skills and practical experience. Both are necessary for degree completion.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and recent natural disasters highlighted further the growing need for more social workers and professionals. PLM aims to help fill that gap by equipping more development workers with the skills and knowledge to carry out the job with higher quality and greater compassion,” said PLM President Emmanuel Leyco.

The following are the requirements for application for admission to the MSW program:
  • College transcript of records
  • Two recommendation letters from former undergraduate professors or immediate supervisors
  • A brief description of a tentative capstone project
