The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) has expanded its off-campus programs by offering fully-remote learning to employees of the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) under the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines.
University President Emmanuel Leyco and OPS officer-in-charge Undersecretary Cheloy Velicaria-Gerafil signed the memorandum of agreement on Thursday, November 24.
Under the agreement, the PLM School of Government will be offering a Master of Public Administration (MPA) program for members of the OPS team.
โWe are delighted to extend our Master in Public Administration program to employees of Malacaรฑangโs Office of the Press Secretary,โ President Leyco said.
"Education is a vocation. Our University takes pride in providing support to the personal and professional development of fellow government workers as they continue to serve the people," he added.
The OPS, in turn, is able to provide an avenue for continuing education for its personnel by honing their individual skills and competencies and developing future government managers and leaders. This is expected to contribute to better public service.
To qualify for admission, an OPS employee must have a bachelorโs degree in any field and must meet the other qualification requirements set by the agencyโs Human Resource Development Committee.
The off-campus program will follow a trimester schedule, with classes offered every Saturday between 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Class meetings may be held online or onsite at a venue provided by the OPS.
Dean Noemi Gocuyo of the PLM School of Government said there is a lot of interest for the program, with 14 OPS regular employees looking to enroll under the special MPA classes so far.
PLM has been offering off-campus graduate programs to other government agencies and private sector partners. Apart from the MPA program for partner government offices, the University has been hosting an off-campus Top Executive Program through the PLM Business School.
The latest partnership with the OPS is in line with PLMโs commitment to provide quality education while contributing to nation-building.
