The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila grieves the passing of decorated screenwriter Manuel "Manny" Buising, an alumnus and former editor-in-chief of "Ang Hasik," the university's student publication during the martial law era. He was 69 years old.

Mr. Buising graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, major in Filipino in 1972. He went on to write the stories behind some of the hit movies of the late Fernando Poe, Jr. such as the original "Ang Probinsyano," "Alamat ng Lawin," and "Isang Bala Ka Lang Part II." He also wrote plays like "Kung Bakit May Nuno sa Punso" and "Patay-Bata."

His writing prowess earned him multiple recognitions from the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature and eventually made it to the Hall of Fame in 2005. He later on served as member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

Our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family.
