The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and the National Cheng Kung University of Taiwan (NCKU) are exploring channels for cross-border collaboration on education and research.

A delegation of the NCKU visited the PLM Campus in Intramuros, Manila on Wednesday, October 12 to start discussions on academic cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two universities.

Professors from NCKU, a public research university based in Tainan City in Taiwan, presented their English-taught programs to PLM professors and officials. In turn, PLM college deans presented the academic programs that each unit offers to undergraduate students.

The goal is to initiate possible research collaborations among professors, as well as develop cross-border programs student research, internships, and student exchange between the two institutions. NCKU professors were also given a tour of PLM’s laboratories, classrooms and other facilities. “The PLM community is humbled by and grateful for NCKU’s interest to explore possible linkages with our University. Welcome to the Philippines!,” PLM President Emmanuel Leyco said.

“We look forward to future partnerships. I believe it would be beneficial for both academic institutions to collaborate on academics and research, as it would lead to advancement of knowledge and a more holistic learning experience for our students,” he added.

Atty. Jose Ngaw, PLM Regent, joined the university in welcoming the NCKU delegation. Regent Ngaw, speaking in Mandarin, said the PLM is looking forward to a fruitful partnership the NCKU. The NCKU is among the top universities in Taiwan.

The NCKU delegation is led by its Associate Vice President for International Affairs Prof. Li Yueh-Heng, Associate Vice President for International Affairs and Distinguished Professor Chen Tzong-Yueh, Professor Lu Tsung-Hsueh, Associate Professor Wu Chih-Yung, Assistant Professor Yu Sheng-Sheng, Dr. Ymir Mendoza Garcia, and Manager Ms. Gina Lee.

They were welcomed by their PLM counterparts: College of Science Dean Dr. Aileen I. Atienza, Office of Public Affairs officer-in-charge Ms. Dina Mendez, College of Engineering and Technology Dean Engr. Juan Tallara, Jr. and Assistant Dean Engr. Peniel Jean Gildo, School of Public Health Dean Dr. Phylis Rio, College of Medicine Dean Dr. Angeline Alabastro, PLM Business School Dean Bernardo R.
